About Tré

Tré Watkins (Dr. Charles L. Watkins III) was born and raised, in San Diego, hailing from Southeast San Diego. His passion for his city and dedication to his community have been acknowledged by organizations and community members alike.

Tré is passionate about working alongside people from marginalized communities to create a more equitable and just society for all.

 

"I recognize the value of celebrating diverse backgrounds and experiences, as it is critical to developing a shared vision of respect for all.​"

Tré is a visionary leader and experienced scholar-practitioner dedicated to positively impacting the lives of individuals and communities. He is the Director of Career Services at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU). In addition to his administrative role, he is a professor of sociology and education, specializing in research methods and theory. 


As a scholar, his research focuses on the intersection of race, space, and higher education, with an emphasis on the experiences of Black students at predominantly white institutions (PWIs). Tré's dissertation, which explored these themes, was awarded the Dr. Joi Spencer Social Justice Champion Dissertation of the Year Award.

Tré brings extensive experience in nonprofit management, including community engagement, resource development, and large-scale event planning. His work across academia and the nonprofit sector reflects a deep commitment to equity, access, and creating pathways for success.

Tré is a member of The Phi Beta Sigma Inc. he is also a board member for the San Diego Lactation Equity Alliance.

 

Tré Watkins & his wife Chardá Watkins are both natives of Southeast San Diego and are raising 6 beautiful, fun and intelligent Black children.
