I am thrilled to announce that I’m officially under contract with SUNY Press for my first book, The Higher Education Green Book: A Guide for Black Communities Navigating Colleges & Universities. Co-edited with Antar Tichavakunda and Juana Hollingsworth, this volume is inspired by the historic Negro Motorist Green Book, which helped Black Americans travel safely during the Jim Crow era.
Our book reimagines this concept for higher education, exploring how Black students and their families can navigate colleges and universities with safety, success, dignity, and joy. In a time when many institutions are dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, it’s crucial to highlight both the barriers and the spaces that allow Black students to thrive.
Each chapter will examine the question: What would a Green Book for higher education look like?
By combining theoretical insights and practical strategies, we aim to offer a new framework for faculty, administrators, and institutional leaders working to create affirming environments for Black students.
I’m excited to share more updates as we continue working on this important project!
